Living Life to the Fullest

Do you think it's important to keep learning new things even when you're done with school?  I think so!  If you think your education ends when you graduate College, you are definitely wrong!  Having a passion towards something or even a small hobby involves some kind of learning.  I find myself reading talks or books, and researching topics, because I have a personal interest in improving and learning new skills.  If there's something I don't understand or want to be better at, I strive to learn!  There's actually a term for this: Lifelong Learning.  Do you know what that means?

To me, it means you have a desire to focus on your personal development with no or little help.  You either want to better yourself or you just want to learn something new!   You have to motivate yourself!  Is it such a good idea to rely on people to push you in the direction of their choosing?  Telling you how to live your life?  No one wants to live like that and I certainly don't want to!  It's never too late to start your own dreams and pursuing them.  So how does one live life to the fullest and become a lifelong learner along the way?  Here are 15 steps that I think are beneficial with your journey of personal development:

1.  Create a life of meaning and find your calling:
  • Identify your purpose here on earth and discover your gifts/talents, then write them down in a journal.
2. Write down a bucket list:
  • Make a list of what you hope to see or do with your life.  What do you value and desire?
3. Don't care what people think and pursue your dreams/goals:
  • Don't go after someone else's dreams/goals. Lead your own life.  As Randy Pausch says, "It's not about how to achieve your dreams, it's about how to lead your life.  If you lead your life the right way the karma will take care of itself. The dreams will come to you.....Experience is what you get, when you don't get what you want."
4. Take control of your life:
  • Make a list of priorities and accept your life the way it is.  Appreciate your current situation and embrace it.  Be true to yourself and don't live by someone else's expectations.
5.  Put God first:
  • When you get out of bed first thing in the morning, try and pray to God and read his words.  Dive into the scriptures and read a chapter or verse!  By doing this, he will direct your path.  There's a good chance your life can stay on track!
6. Think of your Personal Core Values:
  • What are your beliefs?  What goals do you want to attain?  What's most important to you?  Write your answers down!
7. Find your passions:
  • What are some things you would like to do in your free time?  Prioritize that last and see how you might it in with your busy schedule.
8. Get out of your comfort zone and try new things!
  • Here are a few suggestions:
    • Travel the world.
    • Google some DIY projects.
    • Start a new business.
9. Keep a positive mindset and tell yourself, "I can do this!"
  •  Try to avoid negative self talk and practice positive self talk.  Tell yourself to take more chances and make it work.
10. Develop good habits:
  • Take small baby steps and commit to sticking with your actions and goals.  It's going to take some time, but by motivating yourself everyday to develop better habits will soon become a routine.
11. Overcome challenges by moving forward:
  • Sometimes it's easier to avoid facing your fears, but in order for you to grow, you need to move forward with courage.  Accept the fact that you might not like it or be good at it, but be satisfied in knowing you tried and can now check that dream off the list.
12. Become a Leader:
  • There are many ways to become a good leader.  It can impact the success of you, your team, and family.
13. Write down a list of things you're grateful for. Keep a gratitude journal!
  • If you are feeling thankful for something, write it down.  You'd be surprised with the list you create.  Acknowledging that goodness in your life makes you a little more happy!
14. Find pleasure in all the aspects you hope and want to master:
  • Don't focus on the results or the outcome, but the journey of it all.  Enjoy the process!  What do you want to be a master at?
15. Serve others:
  • Make random acts of kindness a thing!  It doesn't have to be big either.  Shoot a text to a friend, smile at the stranger right next to you, bring a plate of cookies to your neighbor.

So with that said, if you want to try and live a more meaningful life and better yourself at becoming a Lifelong Learner, take one of these steps listed above and use it.  You'd be surprised where life takes you!
