7 Habits
“One of the most
compelling books ever written, The 7
Habits of Highly Effective People, has empowered and inspired readers for
over 25 years.”
This book goes into
great detail on how to develop personal effectiveness. If we are put in a situation, we must be able
to change ourselves and our perception. So
what are the 7 habits that are possessed by highly effective people?
1. Be Proactive: Take
responsibility for one’s own life
2. Begin with the End
in Mind: Reconnect with passion and purpose
3. Put First Things
First: Identify and prioritize tasks based on importance
4. Think Win-Win:
Work effectively and efficiently with others to achieve results.
5. Seek First to
Understand: Listen empathetically and understand people
6. Synergize: Work
together and value the differences in another person’s perspective. "When
one plus one equals three or more and the whole is great than the sum of its
parts."
7. Sharpen the Saw: Take
time for yourself through physical, social, emotional, mental, and spiritual
renewal
After looking over
these 7 habits, the fifth habit has most meaning to me. I’ve always been a good listener for as long
as I remember. Instead of waiting for my
turn to talk, I genuinely listen to others, trying to understand their
perspective. I avoid judgement as best
as I can, because I remind myself that everyone is human and no one is
perfect. I’d rather build them up and
avoid hurting their feelings. As most
people say, I don’t have a mean bone in my body! I am naturally good at paying attention,
providing feedback, and I try my best to respond appropriately. This is a habit I am naturally good at!
So with that said, here are some questions to think about: Which of the 7 habits has the most meaning for you? Do you have good or bad habits? Do you want to better yourself? Do you want to succeed in life? If you’d like some motivation, go give this book a read!
